Festival and Art

There is a strange intersection, at outdoor music festivals, in which the juxtaposition of the sublime landscape meets the onslaught of disposable party culture. Here, I have witnessed accidental performance art, surreal costumes, intense dance floors and a plethora of raw collaborative creativity. My work often references my love of these events taking inspiration from how we behave, perform, and decorate ourselves and spaces when we engage in revelry.

My work is playful, kitsch and surreal, inspired by the moving contorted bodies of dancers, the elaborate sequin costumes of circus performers, the mesmerising LED and laser light displays at night concerts, and the empty and serene nature of the natural worlds return, post event pack down.

Working with a variety of mediums, I favour laborious processes that involve the direct hand of the artist, repetitive actions of knot tying, hand sewing or painfully intricate brushstrokes.

Motifs of Cephalopods have begun to emerge within my art. These strange creatures that display such a dynamic engagement with their surroundings are reminiscent of human party behaviour. Sequins, glitter and plastic based mediums feature heavily within my work. Nature and rubbish are my two loves, and my art will always exist within a struggle to marry the two.
